Austin Fragomen

Chairman and Partner, Fragomen

Austin Fragomen is the Founder and Chairman of the Executive Committee for Fragomen, the world’s leading law firm dedicated exclusively to immigration services worldwide. Established in 1951, Fragomen has grown from a respected domestic U.S. immigration law practice to a truly global organization. Austin has served as staff counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives subcommittee on immigration, citizenship and international law and as an adjunct professor of law at New York University School of Law. Also, he has testified before Congress on a range of immigration issue and before the immigration subcommittees of the House and Senate to share his knowledge on a variety of business immigration.

In this in-depth interview, Fragomen discusses how he predicted in early days that there would be a shift from traditional immigration (refugees, family migration) towards skill based immigration and towards the needs of the employer; describes his role as an advisor on immigration issues to Congress; shares his view that countries need migrants and explains the reasons; and reveals his belief that the biggest changes that he has seen throughout his career are more societal in terms of areas like compliance, managing risk and managing client service.
