One of the five essentials of a successful talent strategy is to ‘get the people experience right’. Ensuring a positive employee experience for new hires is critical. Organisations invest huge amounts of time and money to hire the right people, so creating the right experience even before they join the firm is vital for future engagement and retention.

Our inductions are evolving based on feedback. For example, we have recently changed our graduate inductions to reflect the values of ‘Gen Z’ and to make them more engaging. By decreasing time in the classroom, all graduate joiners now attend a full day volunteering activity, to help build team skills and offer a chance to demonstrate an element of care to society, which is aligned to our core values as a firm. We’re also engaging with new joiners through technologies such as interactive mobile apps and gamification. Our inductions are designed to focus on how the new joiner feels and their experience, rather than overloading them with content and knowledge about the firm.

We take a continuous-improvement approach to this experience and each new joiner is surveyed throughout their onboarding journey. We value each individual’s input and take action on feedback as we seek to enhance their perception of the firm as the ‘employer of choice’.
